Saturday Show: Garden Fancy

Hello Peeps,

Today's Show is one that the Mother has finished in the last few weeks. She started it about 6 years ago and is sooooo happy to finally have finished it!

Isn't it lovely?!

It is just a simple square-in a square-in a square. But the Mother just loves it simplicity and coolio fabrics.

The Mother found this pretty pink fabric to use for the binding.

This is the coolio backing that she used.

Seal Of Approval!

Hello Peeps,

Yesterday (Monday NZT) was VERY exciting. There were two fire engines, several firefighters and a couple of policemen across the street from our house. Our road (which is a reasonably busy road) was closed off. Some of our neighbours across the road and a few houses down were trapped in their house for over half the morning... why?

Well, because a fur seal had wandered up from the estuary and started sunbathing in front of their front door! This is incredibly unusual because the estuary down the road from us is quite far from the ocean.
Miss H arrived at the scene while the firefighters and police were still working out what exactly to do and who to call. So she was able to get as close as the cameraman in the above picture.

She took this coolio picture. Then sent it into the NZ Herald - and guess what? They used it, not only on their website...

...but also in the printed newspaper! Miss H feels (slightly) famous. Heehee.

Later on that morning the firefighters and police used fences and wooden boards to get the seal back to the estuary, and hoped that he would then go back to the sea on the high tide (around 4 p.m.). The Boss (who had been at work during all the excitement) went out in the pouring rain and driving wind at 7:30 to check if the seal was still there - unfortunately he was.
But the excitement didn't end there! At 3 a.m. today (Tuesday NZT) the seal was spotted at the car wash which is located around the road a bit and behind the house he was found at yesterday. Department of Conservation and the Auckland Zoo have now taken him to a secluded beach about 30 minutes away.

With all the seal excitement Miss H just HAD to stitch up a cute seal. He will be used as a quilt label one day.

The Mother has al these lovely fabrics she is going to use in her next quilt. She just hasn't gotten around to cutting them up yet... so I said I would cut them for her... I can't see why she didn't want me to!

Miss H has been sewing her postage stamp quilt together. She is hoping to have the top done by the end of the week... maybe...

Saturday Show: Flutterby

Hello Peeps,

The rain is pouring down outside and it is dark and cold downstairs. So Miss H had to photograph today's quilt on her window-seat (after removing the cushions and quilts on it!).

I think the quilt look great hung over the seat with me.

The Mother quilted two of the coloured lines with loop-de-loops, one with flowers, and one with hearts. She enjoyed practicing her machine quilting which she is not good at and always needs practice with.

Look! There's a pretty butterfly flying around on the coin quilt.

You would never know that these coolio butterflies were added to fix up a mistake. Heehee - shhh... don't tell the Mother I told you the secret...

This is the Mother's favourite binding. She has used it to bind lots of different quilts.

A Posy, a mug, and a bear.

Hello Peeps,

It's late autumn here in New Zealand but...

...the flowers in Grandma's garden are looking lovely.

Miss H made a pretty little posy of purple, red, and white flowers.

Several weeks ago, The Mother found her "beary" special Harrods mug had been broken while in storage. She was most upset.

After thinking about what to do with it for awhile she finally decided to glue it back together. Sadly it can't hold liquid anymore.

But I am a clever sheepie and I solved the problem for the Mother and gave one of her handmade bears a new home.

Now he sits happily in his special mug and sniffs his daffodil.

Stamps, binding, and cake, of course!

Hello Peeps,

Miss H has been stitching up lots of little stitcheries on 2 1/2 inch squares. She is going to use them in her Postage Stamp Quilt.

Hedgy and Leo.

Billy the Goat, and our famous Kiwi!

And some more coolio creatures.

The Mother has been stitching bindings on 4 of her quilts - 2 she recently whipped up and 2 from her UFO pile.
I will be showing them on the Saturday Shows over the next few weeks.

The marvellous Miss Bee has made another AMAZING cake!

Her eldest daughter had a carnival themed party. Isn't the cake just incredible?

And look! It is rainbow coloured inside!

*Wish It Was Saturday* Saturday Show: Rhapsody In Blue

Hello Peeps,

As you might of guessed it is not Saturday anymore... oops! Where did the time go? Apparently it is Monday, but I didn't do a show on Saturday so we are going to pretend that it is still the weekend.

Today's quilt is a table-runner, but it has been given a new life hanging over the back of the reading chair.

The Mother made it out of a charm pack. Isn't the fabric coolio?

There is no batting in it because she wanted it lightweight for the table. It is just tied to the backing with alternating red and blue buttons.

The final border is made up of the left-over charm pack squares that were then cut into 2 1/2" squares.
The backing is plain black.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that the reading chair has been taken over by the Enemy. It is HIS chair now (the only chair he is allowed to sit on).
He immediately jumps up onto the lap of whoever sits on it and makes himself comfortable.

The Enemy will do ANYTHING for a treat, unlike me...

Cupcake baked by Flower.

...err yes, of course, Miss H, I will clean your whole room for you - just please let me eat the cupcake!

Hexagon Quilt Update.

Hello Peeps,

A couple of years ago Miss H started a Grandmother's Garden quilt with one inch hexagons. She was inspired by a hexagon blog hop, the adorable hexagon quilts on Pinterest, and the wonderful Aunty M. After about 80 hexagon flowers, Miss H stopped and put it in the WIP pile.
But then a few weeks ago Aunty M showed a bunch of her lovely hexagon flowers and Miss H was inspired to continue her hexagon flowers.

Miss H first posted about the quilt here in August 2013.

Miss H has now stitched 112 hexagon flowers. The flower stack is taller than me now!!!

She loves the fabric. Especially the aqua flowers.

My favourite ones are the green and red ones, though.

There is also two pretty floral ones.

Miss H has used several different white on whites for the centre of each flower.

Ahhh, I love lying on a bed of flowers, Heehee!

Miss H still has a lot more flowers to make. She is going to keep making them until she runs out of fabric.

Saturday Show: Rambling Rose

Hello Peeps,

Today's quilt is one made by the Mother. She originally was going to make it for Miss H, but then thought there was too much pink in it for Miss H, so she decided to make it for someone else. But then Miss H saw it and fell in love with it! So the Mother gave it to her.

Isn't it coolio?

And it has Miss H's favourite aqua. She doesn't mind the pink at all.

The Mother quilted it with wavy lines to look like a lattice.

The binding is made out of the same pink as the squares.

And Miss H lurves the backing fabric - pretty pink roses. One of Miss H's favourite flowers.

Here it is all folded up.

Have a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY tomorrow.

Sweet Tooth and Selvage Edges.

Hello Peeps,

On Wednesday, we had some friends pop by and give us some delicious cupcakes, yummy biscuits, and scrumptious fudge. They are thinking of starting a business selling the food at night markets around Auckland.

Don't the cupcakes look yummy? They didn't last long in our house. Miss H had to hide these ones for her photos.

Mmmm... Peppermint and chocolate - two of my favourite things.

Oreo icing made this one divine.

This one had lemon in the center and meringue on top!

There was three kinds of fudge - normal fudge on the left, Russian fudge in the middle, and passion fruit fudge on the top right. Passion fruit fudge was soooo yummy!

And the biscuits were yummy too! Chocolate cookies and a chocolate chip one! Yum!

Miss H has finally found something to do with her selvage edges.

She made colour coordinated stars out of the selvage edges. Aren't they coolio?
She just needs to make one more and then she will sew them up and make a wall-hanging or table runner.
