Home Sweet Home

Hello Peeps,

Miss H and I have been in Tauranga for nearly a week. She has been busy at a course teaching people how to study at tertiary level. But has also had a lot of down time and so has done a bit of exploring ad lots of hand stitching.

Bothe Miss H and I have settled into our new place quite well.

This is where Miss H will be studying... very boring for me...

But while she's not watching I can sneak over to the kitchen area and stuff my face with chocolate, I mean, snack on a few cocoa beans - beans are a vegetable, right? Heehee!

This is Miss H's bed - I made her make it especially for this photo... it doesn't usually look like this...

Miss H was kind enough to bring a friend along for me. His name is Mr. Rabbit.  So in between helping Miss H study, eating chocolate, and exploring Tauranga, I will have someone to play with. Yay!

This in the lounge area

It is quite hot in the sleepout so Miss H set up a chair outside in the shade... Well, sort of the shade.

Pop by on Wednesday for a post from Snowy.

Kit Kat and Miss H's Farewell!

Hello Peeps,

Both Miss H and Kit Kat decided to leave home to study at university. And they are the first ones in their family to do so! Miss H moved a bit further down the North Island, and Kit Kat went all the way down to the bottom of the South Island!
Right now Miss H is in Tauranga and her best friend Kit Kat is settling into the Halls of Residence in Otago.

There was lots and lots of yummy food. This is the dessert part - we did have filled rolls first. Heehee.

But the best part was Miss H's and Kit Kat's Farewell Cake.
The amazing Miss Bee offered to make them a half-and-half cake with whatever they wanted on it...

And here it is!
Everything on the cake has a special meaning.
Miss H couldn't help making sure that EVERYONE at the party saw the coolio cake.

The Kit-Kats around the outside are for Kit Kat - one of her commonly used nicknames.
And the colouring pencils are for Miss H as she will need to do a lot of colouring at preschool. Heehee!

Kit Kat's other nickname is Kat and so a cat was the perfect animal to represent her.

Kit Kat will be doing a degree in film and media.
The reel is sparkly just like Kit Kat!

Miss H chose a bunny to represent her and Miss Bee decided to do a bunny bottom because it's head is buried in books - as Miss H usually is. The books also represent Miss H studying to be a preschool teacher.

The cake inside was a DELICIOUS chocolate cake with butterscotch icing! Yummy!

Bake Sale.

Hello Peeps,

On Saturday Miss H and the Mother baked up a storm for Jazi-G and also for Miss H's and Kit Kat's farewell (I will show you the farewell party pictures on Friday).

Mmmm... chocolate chip cookies...

Miss H and I love Ginger Crunch! Soooo gingery and crunchy. Hee...hee...

The Mother got quite creative with the packaging - each one is different.

The Nanimo Bars were put in an adorable purse package.

Butterfly cupcakes - always cute and yummy!

What could be better than being surrounded by chocolate Afghans? Yummy!

Oooh! Sticky caramel wedged between chocolate slice and topped with melted chocolate!
Sheepie Heaven!

Pop by on Saturday the 20th to see Miss H and Kit Kat's Farewell Party. Kit Kat is Miss H's best friend and she is also leaving home!

A Valentine for the Mother!

Hello Peeps,

Happy Valentines Day!

The Mother works two and a half days a week and this provided the perfect opportunity for Miss H to sew her a secret Valentines Day present.

Pattern is "Love Birds" from Sweet Tweets by Erin Cox.
This is her Valentines Day present.

The lovely red bird is the Mother and the cute aqua one is Miss H.
The Mother had decided that she would send snail mail to Miss H while she is in Tauranga.

Miss H stitched the words to look like they were hand carved into the tree.

This is the first time Miss H has used the sewing machine to quilt a word into a quilt. I think it looks pretty coolio!

She also stitched a fluffy cloud and a bright sun.

But my favourite part is the heart leaves - so so coolio!

And lastly I must tell you the funny story about the binding. The Mother keeps a stash of pre-made leftover bindings from other projects. Miss H pinched the binding that was in the exact same fabric she made the rest of the mini quilt from. The Mother laughed and said she thought she recognised that binding when Miss H admitted she borrowed it. Oops! Hee...hee!

I can drive!

Hello Peeps,

Miss H passed her restricted licence test today. Yay!

In NZ you first get your learners - which means that you have to drive with a fully licensed driver at all times. And then you get your restricted - which means you can drive all by yourself between the hours of 5a.m. and 10p.m. but you aren't allowed to take passengers. Hmmm... I hope I don't count as a passenger...

Happy Day!

Toot! Toot! Out of my way everyone!

Quilt Labels.

Hello Peeps,

The Mother has turned some more of Miss H's stitcheries into quilt labels.

Aren't they coolio?

Little red carts are soooo adorable. I wish I had a real one.

Mmmmm... yummy! Which one should I eat first?

This boat will have to go on a ocean themed quilt.

I wonder which quilt this cute little canteen will go on...

Spread your wings and fly!

Scrapbooking Books

Hello Peeps,

When Miss H cut up her Miss Kate jelly roll for her alphabet quilt, she kept all the selvage edges.

That got her thinking about what she could do with them.

She decided to use them to cover a couple of books which she is going to make into scrapbooks.

So out came the mod-podge.

Stop moving Snowy!

Better... but next time look at the camera.

And these are the results...

Aren't they coolio? Now Miss H will have to go through her pictures to fill up the pages.
