Today the Mother is taking part in the We Support You blog hop organised by Mdm Samm and her able leader for this hop Pat Broe – the best!
We used a pattern Mdm Samm designed.
You can also buy it for $12 if you would like.
madamesamm@me.com
The Mother enlarged it and made it into a cushion for a very special family friend. Our Auntie Susan.
Everyone
should have an Auntie Susan – she taught Kit Kat and Miss H how to sew a
dress the year before they started high school and also Kit Kat’s older
sister. And she is the best baker ever!
The Mother and Boss have known her over 25 years.
She
left school without qualifications, and has worked as a nurse aid, a
nanny, farm hand, dressmaker, chef, secretary, accounts clerk, legal
secretary and personal assistant
before
becoming a teacher with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) then a
Masters with Honours – Second Class First Division, her work often
specialising in Gifted Education.
After
a number of years teaching in New Zealand she returned mid-year 2014
from teaching for 2 years in an International Christian School in INDIA –
Miss H and Kit Kat visited her there for 3 weeks - and she went for her
2 yearly mammogram where she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
What a roller coaster ride it has been in the past 6 months.
She
has had a lumpectomy, then a unilateral mastectomy with reconstruction
and reduction of the other breast. Then because the best treatment was
hormone therapy she had a hysterectomy and just 14 days ago her final
reconstruction operation. Whew! She is amazing!
In
New Zealand most campaigns to inform people about Breast Cancer use the
slogan Think Pink – each cancer has a certain colour did you know? – so The Mother has made a pink cushion and a pretty pink bra for Aunty Susan’s cushion.
Even
though she finds zips scary she put one in the back so she could put the
special zipper pull on it – she purchased it as a fund raiser for the
Cancer Society as a key ring - it shows the size of two of Aunty Susan’s
lumps.
The Mother made the cushion for Aunty Susan's bed and as a tribute for how courageous we
think she is, and all the other women out there fighting this disease.
Thanks
for looking in on our blog and now you should go see all the other
wonderful things people have made with this pattern.
Here are the rest
of today’s bloggers and the full list – don’t miss out – go check out
